Green Native Council is an, American Indian Non-Profit Corporation located in the Pacific Northwest, whose purpose is to promote, develop, and encourage green-sustainable building along with promoting and educating the preservation of the Environment.
Green Native Council has developed the program requirements for a green building program to serve the needs of both Indian Country and public & private projects in Pacific Northwest and now the Nation via the efficient use of resources, materials, energy and water, and to maximize the indoor environmental quality in new and remodel construction.
The Council provides technical expertise to help local tribes, government designers & builders implement the requirements; administers an impartial third-party inspection and verification, which ensures the program requirements have been met; and issues certification the project has been constructed to the green building requirements.
The Council also provides training through a Plan Reviewer and Inspector Certification Program. Through this innovative training program, local area reviewers and inspectors can be certified in quality assurance methods designed for construction.
"With the return of indigenous cultures around the world, we are beginning to see a re-emergence of the concept of seven generations included into planning, design and construction efforts. Couple this with a deep concern for the natural world we feel many tribes and indigenous cultures could become unparalleled leaders and models of sustainability and restoration."
